Our depth of knowledge on incident research, coupled with the nature and huge variety of the crashes we investigate, helps us quickly establish the range of factors that have led to specific incidents and determine exactly how they happened.
TRL takes that extensive knowledge and uses it to compare incidents to similar situations we've investigated in the past. This enables us to identify emerging incident trends and risks and develop measures designed to reduce them to acceptable levels.
TRL has helped a wide variety of organisations, in the UK and internationally, manage their risks more effectively - from local authorities, government agencies and transport operators through to key industrial operators (e.g. in the oil and gas sector).
A Structured Approach to Risk Management
We understand the requirements, as well as the business benefits that can be delivered through implementation of sensible, well-documented and auditable risk management systems.
The use of a structured approach to risk management leads to auditable decisions that can minimise risk and enhance safety. Our guidance is always based on sound evidence. So we can help reduce liability to criminal or civil legal action by demonstrating that operational decisions have been taken against a background of well-informed consideration and advice.
Based on our knowledge of accidents, we're able to spot trends, identify best practice and reduce risk. This reduces costs, prevents injury and ultimately saves lives.
TRL helps maximise and maintain operational efficiencies essential to securing future business in highly competitive markets. We carry out independent fleet audits, best practice reviews, operational analyses and benchmarking exercises, all aimed at assisting our customers to ascertain where and how to make efficiency savings in their business.
We help determine the most appropriate fleet profile for individual businesses, advise on procurement options and maintenance arrangements, and help monitor efficiency levels by advising on data management and by providing analyses.
Business continuity and Corporate Social Responsibility are growing issues. Indeed, the ability to operate under any circumstances can be key to company survival. TRL understands the importance of these issues and advises on effective, viable business continuity plans, including business impact analysis, crisis management and compliance.
Risk Management and Fleet Safety
Effective risk management not only protects your company from expense incurred through physical damage to your assets. It also mitigates against civil litigation and criminal charges should anything still go wrong.
TRL assists fleet operators to ensure legal compliance and manage a reduction in their corporate liability. A range of techniques are led by sound, research-based knowledge of wider issues, as well as practical experience of implementing solutions. We help our customers in many ways, including managing the issues of alcohol, drugs and fatigue, raising awareness and engaging staff on road safety issues, analysing and benchmarking collision data, and conducting depot site-safety reviews, distribution-route safety audits and strategic reviews, and operational audits.
TRL runs full assessments of sites including public roads or private sites. These assessments analyse associated risk and suggest recommendations to ensure the site is free from incidents. TRL analyses post-accident sites, enabling comprehensive investigations to be carried out and a full risk assessment to be completed in order to help prevent similar accidents occurring again.
Education and Dissemination
Sharing knowledge is truly at the heart of TRL. We believe in giving our customers the toolkits that enable them to carry out comprehensive risk assessments themselves.
We provide comprehensive training courses on how to complete your own risk assessments. Our repertoire is vast. For example, we undertake courses on road safety initiatives targeted at Road Safety Officers within local government. We deliver courses on monitoring and evaluation as well as strategy and policy. All of these courses leave the delegate better informed, trained and able to complete their own comprehensive assessments either with guidance from TRL or alone.
