This issue of Current Topics includes over 80 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on recent developments brought about by the international desire for ever shrinking rail journey times. Specific topics include train design for passenger comfort and stability (including tilting trains), upgraded and new high speed track, control of trackside noise, and the business opportunities presented to the railway industry by such technical developments. These items have been selected from the material added to the TRL Library Database between 2002 and 2004. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
