Loading tests on a full-size steel orthotropic bridge deck panel with v-stiffeners are described. The panel was subjected to static loads using tyres and wheels which are representative of those fitted to commercial vehicles and which have been specified for fatigue design. Stresses were measured in the deck plate, a v-stiffener and a cross- beam with particular reference to the welded connections between these components. The results are presented as influence lines for each gauge position and as diagrams showing the stress distribution adjacent to a weld. in each case the deck panel was loaded with a single wheel, so that the data can be used to derive influence lines for each gauge position and as diagrams showing the stress distribution adjacent to a weld.
