This report describes the construction of the experimental concrete carriageways on the Sandtoft to Trent section of M180; the design of this experiment has been reported in SR 653. Construction of the 11.2m wide concrete carriageways was carried out in one operation by a slip-form paver. The maximum length laid in one day was 1132m and an average daily output of 502m was achieved. The hardshoulder was also paved in concrete by a small slip-form paver which formed the integral drainage channel. The results of tests on the plastic and the hardened concrete are reported, together with summaries of the results of tests on the finished surfaces. (A)
