The MERLIN road roughness machine: user guide

Road surface roughness is an important measure of road condition. This report provides a detailed description of the Merlin (Machine for Evaluating Roughness using Low-cost INstrumentation) road roughness measurement machine and practical guidance on its use. The Merlin can be used for the direct measurement of road roughness or to help calibrate other instruments such as the vehicle mounted Bump Integrator. (A)
