research on monitoring cycle use

The Transport Research Laboratory was commissioned by the Charging and Local Transport Division of the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) to provide guidance to local authorities and others on methods for monitoring cycle use. This report concentrates on the findings of collaborative research between TRL, six local authorities and a number of other interested bodies on a range of cycle monitoring techniques. This part of the study assisted in framing much of the advice contained in a companion report, which is concerned solely with providing guidance. The guidance is intended to help with setting targets, survey design, and the statistical interpretation of the results (Davies, Emmerson & Pedler, 1999). (A)
