This report presents a simple method based on the use of isochronous curves for predicting the strains developed in polymeric reinforcements to embankments. The method has been applied to predict the strains generated in a Tensar SR2 geogrid reinforcement to a road embankment built on soft ground on the A414 at Stanstead Abbotts. A comparison of the predicted and measured strains in the geogrid is provided in the report. The incorporation of a layer of reinforcement and the installation of vertical drains at this site was estimated to be about 1M cheaper than excavating and replacing the soft subsoil beneath the embankment.
