This report updates an earlier financial analysis of minibus performance, published as Contractor Report CR 42 (see IRRD 811251). The methodology used is the same as in this report. A hypothetical corridor in an urban area is taken. A spreadsheet program is used to compare the financial results of a variety of different bus types serving this corridor. A series of unit costs and other variables is assumed for each bus type in turn. A variety of scenarios are dealt with. Flat versus peaked demand profiles are compared, as are high density and low density corridors. Also considered are: the effects of congestion; the application of driver rates for full-sized vehicles to those for minibuses; one-for-one replacement of full sized buses by minibuses; and the environmental impact of minibuses. For related work see IRRD 830330, 830332 and 830333.
