previous laboratory studies have developed methods of accelerating the curing of concrete test specimens.this report describes an experiment carried out on a motorway construction site to compare the variabilities of the results of compressive and tensile strength tests obtained from cubes and cylinders which have been subjected to accelerated and 28-day curing. information is provided on the composition of the overall variabilities which have components arising from variations in materials,processing,sampling and testing. the compressive strengths of specimens subjected to the accelerated curing procedure were significantly less variable than those cured in the normal way for 28 days. the main contribution to the total variability of both sets of strength results was due to variations in production.the accelerated indirect-tensile strengths however were more variable than the 28-day strengths and the contributions of the components of variability to the total variability were not consistent(a).
