the values of resistance to skidding of a number of experimental sections of rolled asphalt made with different binders have been used to assess the ability of a number of physical tests to predict the suitability of a binder to maintain the texture depth of a rolled asphalt under heavy traffic. none of the standard specification tests was of any use for this purpose. of the special tests designed to examine the tendency of the binders to weather and wear away from the surface of the asphalt, a weatherometer procedure is considered to be of some value in providing a guide to identifying those binders of very low resistance to weathering. more work is needed however to improve the repeatability and reproducibility of this procedure. although this research has only been partially successful, considerable light has been thrown on the mechanisms whereby the binder produces the desired depth of texture and suggestions for further work to provide a suitable test have been included.
