this report describes a field trial of a method for the rapid analysis of fresh concrete developed by the scientific branch of the greater london council. the method analyses the constituents of a concrete mix on a weight basis; it provides cement and water contents and an aggregate grading within twenty to thirty minutes of sampling. the repeatability of the cement content determinations from this limited trial was approximately two per cent of the total mix; modifications to the apparatus could probably improve this performance. the repeatability of the water content determination was approximately one per cent of the total mix. the method proved suitable for operation under site conditions. the use of nitrobenzene however requires provision of good ventilation for its safe operation. duplicate sampling was incorporated in this trial so that the contributions, to the overall variability, of the sampling, testing and load-to-load variabilities could be examined.
