the atmospheric concentrations of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitric oxide were measured at three sites in west london. the sites were at distances ranging up to 50m from a permanent atmospheric pollution measuring station at the kerbside of a busy road. the data obtained show that the pollutants measured at the remote sites were principally produced by the traffic in the major road and that their concentration fell with increasing distance from the road, to about 30 per cent of the kerbside level at 50m. wind speed was shown to be correlated with pollutant concentration but the relative pollutant concentrations at and remote from the kerbside showed little variation with wind direction.(a)
