Each April and October the Department of Transport publishes the fuel consumptions of new cars as measured in standard tests. These consumptions are measured in an urban driving cycle, at a steady 90 km/h, and at a steady 120 km/h. Although these figures are intended to help car buyers it is known that they are not fully-representative of real driving conditions. This study was concerned with deriving a formula to calculate on-road fuel consumptions from the standard test consumptions. (A)
